THE FESTIVAL OF FASHION: PURE LONDON

News by Ashutosh Kukreja

The three day festival of fashion has commenced, as Olympia London hosts the UK’s leading fashion trade event, Pure London, for the second time this year.

The trade event lasts from the 21st to the 23rd of July 2019, and showcases over 1300 menswear, womenswear and kidswear collections, from over 700 fashion brands (many of which being small scale design houses). On top of this, garment and fabric suppliers from 13 countries are present.

What’s more, Pure London is introducing to the UK for the first time, ‘Selected’ by Kate Moss – a clothing collaboration between the supermodel and Dutch designer Nikkie Plessen – during the event.

Featuring in NIKKIE’s international campaigns, Moss has worked closely with Nikkie to curate this collection that embodies the tough-yet-feminine look, following the model’s own aesthetic as inspiration. It’s a line of jackets, skirts, dresses, pants and tops – all now made available to buyers.

Unlike other such trade events in the UK, this three-day fashion festival brings together all aspects of the fashion industry under one roof – with Pure London hosting fashion brands and buyers, and Pure Origin hosting the manufacturers and fabric suppliers – making it a mega-event for anyone who works or aspires to work in the fashion industry.

Online fashion service Unique Style Platform has paired up with Pure London for this year’s event. Not only does this trade show consist of runways, exhibits, and networking events, it is also dotted with seminars featuring influential fashion figures, keynote speakers and designers like Patrick Grant. Joining him have been the Global Head of Couture for Vivienne Westwood, Karlmond Tang from oki-ni, Jacynth Bassett of The Bias Cut, and many more.

They are scheduled to share tips to succeed in the industry, or address some of the key issues surrounding fashion today. Much in line with Pure London’s agenda of challenging the status quo and bringing about big change, the speakers spark some much-needed conversation on topics of sustainability, fast-fashion, local production and more.
