Designer Stella McCartney is reviving the 1941 Disney classic, Fantasia, with a collection of bags, jumpers, and more inspired by the film.
The unisex capsule collection ‘blends fashion and fantasy’ featuring new Disney Fantasia prints, original graphics and vibrant psychedelia. Combining ageless visuals and shared values of celebrating nature, music and experimental creativity, the collection provides a perfect escape from reality.
A huge fan of the film herself, McCartney says that Fantasia was ahead of the time back then and is more relevant than ever now.
The Disney animation blended animation with classical music from composers such as Ludwig Van Beethoven and Stravinsky. One thing McCartney is excited to achieve with the collection is introducing the film to a new generation who have never seen it, through fashion.
The clothing, accessories and kids-wear pay homage to the film’s characters and colour palette, with Mickey Mouse cropping up on many of the garments.
Standout items from the collection include a colourful jumper depicting Mickey Mouse in the iconic Sorcerer’s Apprentice scene of the film and a silk maxi dress with various versions of the films posters scattered over it.
The collection features a range of vegan materials, including organic cotton, recycled nylon and recycled polyester.
This isn’t the first time that McCartney has collaborated with Disney, having designed a trouser suit for Minnie Mouse to celebrate 30 years of Disneyland Paris, which was debuted in time for International Women’s Day.
Stella McCartney’s Disney Fantasia collection launches today with items ranging in price from £50 to £2,500.
