MCQUEEN & MOSS: KATE MOSS STARS IN NEW ALEXANDER MCQUEEN AW19 CAMPAIGN

News by Ashutosh Kukreja

The house of Alexander McQueen has unveiled its Autumn/Winter 2019 campaign, starring renowned English supermodel Kate Moss, dressed in pieces from the brand’s AW19 collection. McQueen released the campaign film in the early hours of the 23rd July, videoed by Masha Vasyukova, featuring Moss against an indoor/outdoor Northern English background.

A close friend of the late designer and a longtime muse of the fashion house, this certainly isn’t the first time Moss has lent her face to McQueen campaigns.

The model can be seen walking around and posing in shapely, voluminous and boldly coloured dresses and some tailored, fitted numbers as well. Some of the shots feature Moss wearing a fitted grey jacket with voluminous pink sleeves, while in few others she dons a heavily embellished metallic dress. The styling for the campaign borrows from the runway show for the same collection, as the model sports minimal makeup and wears her hair in a tube ponytail in some frames.

The campaign alternates between a natural, grassland, outdoor setting, and an indoor, industrial, dotted-with-looms one – mimicking the collection that features industrial elements in the tailoring and natural elements in the motifs and prints.

Consistent with the theme of the collection that is inspired by current creative director Sarah Burton’s hometown of Macclesfield in the north of England, the campaign was directed by M/M(Paris) and photographed by Jamie Hawkesworth in the same location, known for having textile mills that Burton continues to source from. Speaking of the collection, Burton says, “The collection is inspired by the bolts of cloth we saw woven both by man and machine,” as she hints towards the colours being inspired by the Red Rose of Lancaster.
