Women’s bodies change constantly throughout their lives. Whether it is down to hormones, pregnancy, weight fluctuations or medical conditions, it can sometimes feel hard to love the skin you are in.
One way to fall in love with your body again is to experiment with your personal style. Certain cuts and patterns don’t work for some and that is OK! You just need to find what clothes suit your body. Here are some tips on how to experiment with your personal style.
Assess your current wardrobe
It is common for people to hold on to sentimental pieces of clothing or clothing in different sizes with the hopes they can wear them again one day. This can be detrimental to your mental health and prevent you from seeing your body as beautiful.
Get rid of anything you don’t often wear or that you don’t love. This will leave you with a core base of regularly worn pieces where you can identify shapes or colours that you wear often. You may also notice areas of potential exploration too, such as new colours or shapes.
Seek inspiration
Fashion inspiration is everywhere. You may see people on the street and think they look great or have specific celebrities whose style you admire.
Start picking up fashion magazines such as Vogue to keep up with the latest trends too. Although you don’t have to incorporate these into your wardrobe, you may find prints and combinations that you like.
If you are really struggling with narrowing down exactly what you like, try making a mood board of new styles. This will help you to determine exactly what you like when you go shopping.
Experiment with accessories
Accessories offer a low-commitment way to try out new styles. Start with the base of your outfit. Well-fitting underwear is one of the keys to confidence. You could try out different styles and see which helps you feel amazing. Waspies are a great choice if you are looking for something a bit different.
For your outer style, jewellery is a good place to start. Statement pieces can help to showcase your personality a little bit without feeling like you are going to stand out too much. Scarves and hats are also popular choices, especially as you can remove them should you wish.
Step out of your comfort zone gradually
Experimenting with your style doesn’t need to be a sudden reveal to the whole world. You can start by making small changes such as with accessories and gradually build up to a new shirt or pair of trousers.
Once you feel confident with smaller changes, you can begin to look at bigger ones such as patterns or textures in your fabrics. Colour changes are also big changes so instead of always wearing black, for example, challenge yourself to wear a brighter colour once a week and build from there.
