Anya Hindmarch to showcase collection at LFW using ‘Postbox Maze’

News by Madeleine Oakley

Not one to follow the tradition of a regular catwalk show, designer Anya Hindmarch has created an immersive Postbox Maze exhibition to present her latest collection at the upcoming London Fashion Week.

The giant red maze will allow visitors to be wander through during a 30 minute time slot and thus be fully involved with Hindmarch’s latest creations. The installation not only takes inspiration from her new Postbox bag, but also eludes to the patterns in artist M. C. Escher’s ‘Metamorphosis III Mural’ for The Hague Post Office, which was designed 50 years ago. The exhibit also acts as a tribute to the written word and contains a wealth of artefacts on loan from The Postal Museum. Moreover, the organisation Letters Live has contributed recordings of an array of extraordinary letters which celebrate the impact of writing throughout history.

Hindmarch commented “To launch it I wanted to celebrate the almost lost art of slow communication and immerse, and indeed almost lose, our customers in this world of letterwriting.”

In addition to exploring the maze, visitors can engage in a calligraphy workshop with Quill London and also peruse a range of exquisite stationary in the shop. An opportunity to create a bespoke envelope pouch is also provided, with individuals able to emboss a name and address in their own handwriting, a date of their choice and a real British postage stamp.

The entire experience is ultimately to showcase the Postbox collection and the Autumn/ Winter 2019 Postbox Bag. The bag features a handmade vintage-gold frame and a sophisticated opening: demonstrating a high level of modern craftsmanship.

Hindmarch first rejected the norm of the catwalk show in February 2018. The unveiling of her following collections prompted her to create the world’s largest beanbag (enhanced with bed time stories and music), suspend giant heart shaped balloons across the London skyline and also construct a woven tunnel for the public to climb through.

You can visit the maze for £12.50 from Friday 13th – Monday 16th September at Brewer Street Car Park, London.
